| I'm good at telling stories. Some of my best stories are about buying shoes and selling laser printers. One time there was this incident where I had to wrestle with a situation that couldn't be relocated according to any kind of probability whatsoever. After a while it seemed like I was just waiting for my own allowances, but the fact of the matter was that it hadn't yet occured to me just how much I really enjoyed my own complacence. Now that I look back on it I feel as though I was just waiting for the opportunity for my own shoes to get untied untidily. Funny thing, that.
My good friend Holly just sent me this story. It's awesome: I have a 2 year old son who owns the world - at least in his mind. Not too long ago while trying to get dressed, I was informed that I was holding "his" panties. I tried to correct him, simply stating that they were mommy's panties. I was met with a resounding "NO! MY PANTIES!" Well, some things just aren't important enough to argue about so I handed them over and settled for another pair. He managed to get them on somehow. Of course they wouldn't stay up but he compensated by pulling them up over his shoulders. I have never seen anyone so proud to be wearing their mother's undies. Naturally, I got a picture. I can't wait to show it off at his wedding.
And then there was this one time at the Bart platform where this little frumpy blonde-haired girl walked right up to me as I was sketching in my moleskine journal. "Sketching, eh?" She remarked and I just nodded. The girl casually walked from one bench to my right back to the other bench to my left about three or four times. It was pretty obvious that she was checking me out or trying to get my attention or something. "So, you live in Webster Hall?" I asked. Not entirely a non-sequitur as the Rockridge bart is right next to the CCA and many students take the train back to the dorms in downtown from there. "No--what's that?" "Oh, sorry. I thought you were an art student." "No, I'm a seminary student--are you an art student?" "A long time ago...I tried it for a year... it wasn't for me" And then she proceeded to tell me all about how she was studying at some seminary in Berkeley, despite the fact that she is a practicing wiccan. (?!?!?) She was so kind as to follow me onto the bart train where we continued our conversation and I learned that her parents in New Jersey who are both practicing Lutherans have paid for the entirety of her education but disapprove of her pagan beliefs. |
